如果你想表達(dá)“帶某人出去吃飯”，可以說take sb (out) to lunch。但out to lunch卻沒有這個(gè)意思，真正表達(dá)的是“瘋狂的，注意力不集中，心不在焉，神志不清”。

例句：

You must have been out to lunch when you wrote that weird report.

當(dāng)你做這個(gè)奇怪的報(bào)告的時(shí)候，你一定是神志不清的。

It seems that you were out to lunch in class.

lose one's lunch

lose one's lunch是個(gè)美式俚語，字面意思是“丟掉了午餐”，實(shí)際表達(dá)是“嘔吐，沒胃口”（to throw up/vomit）。你還可以用toss one’s lunch來表達(dá)覺得惡心。

中文里有俗語“天下沒有免費(fèi)的午餐”，英文也有，那就是free lunch。free lunch指“不費(fèi)力或者不付出代價(jià)就能白白獲得的東西”。

He’ll hardly offer you a job if you don’t contribute to his party; there’s no free lunch in political campaigns.

ladies who lunch指的是花大量時(shí)間用來社交的人，通常是指“有錢又閑”的人。在過去有錢人家的太太們會(huì)在吃精致又貴的午餐時(shí)侃侃而談，進(jìn)行社交。

這個(gè)短語來自美國作曲作詞家史蒂芬·桑德海姆（Stephen Sondheim）上世紀(jì)70年代的一首歌：
