“Music”是生活的調劑品，沒有“music”的生活是有所缺失的。然而，“Face the music”卻不是大家想象中的“面對音樂”。這個說法跟音樂并沒有什么關系，表達的意思是：“承擔后果”，面對現(xiàn)實或者處理一些現(xiàn)實狀況，接受所有的結果，不管是好是壞。但大多數(shù)情況下都是不太好的結果。有時候，也用來表示接受懲罰，接受某個行為帶來的直接后果。

這個短語來源于劇場。演員們在舞臺上表演時，就直接面對著樂池中的樂隊，在舞臺上，演員經常會由于緊張或怯場而造成忘詞等尷尬的局面，只要音樂一響，演員就沒有任何選擇的余地，只能去face the music（必須承受出現(xiàn)的局面）。人們遂用face the music指承擔自己行為的后果。
